Start 2022 with a Bang: Join our Free Cohorts & Learn with People Worldwide!

Free, remote, and open to all, with weekly Zoom sessions with experts!

In brief: Join a Cohort to take an online course with learners worldwide and take part in weekly Zoom sessions with instructors. These experiences usually come at a premium. At Class Central, they’re free and open to all. Enroll here!

Have you ever started an online course with the intention of finishing it, only to lose motivation halfway through it? I certainly have. Online learning is great, but it can be lonely. We know. At Class Central, we’re online learners ourselves. Gone are the days where online course forums were buzzing with activity, helping you stay motivated and on track.

This is why for over a year, we’ve been running an experiment at Class Central. We’ve been trying to add a social layer on top of free online courses. Initially, we called it Study Groups. We thought it would attract mostly learners like us. But right off the bat, course instructors asked to be involved too. So now, we call it Cohorts.

Cohorts in a Nutshell

You can learn all about Class Central Cohorts here, but in a nutshell, cohorts consist of learners worldwide:

  • Taking an online course together, following a common study schedule.
  • Asking questions and supporting each other through a dedicated forum.
  • Meeting weekly on Zoom with a guide to learn together and stay motivated.

We also organize bootcamps, which are a special type of cohort, built for scale. You can learn all about Class Central Bootcamps here.

Meet the Instructors

David Hik (POLAR), Raj Raghunathan (University of Texas), Nicky Bull (Macquarie University)

Cohorts can be led by a peer, a subject matter expert, or the actual instructor of the course.

Over the past year, we had the chance of having fantastic instructors leading our cohorts, including Dr. Raj Raghunathan, Professor at the University of Texas, who led the A Life of Happiness and Fulfillment Cohort, and Dr. David Hik, who led the Mountains 101 Cohort and is now heading an ambitious scientific and outreach mission in the Canadian Arctic.

And our 2022 cohorts will be no different. For instance, Dr. Barbara Oakley, Professor at Oakland University and creator of Learning How to Learn (one of the most-popular MOOCs ever, with over 3 million enrollments on Coursera) will lead a cohort structured around her latest course, Uncommon Sense Teaching. A few months back, Barb spoke to our bootcampers about the neuroscience of learning. Discover her teaching style below.
